In January 2026 boNGO Worldwide completed two Happy Classrooms at Mlomba School in rural Blantyre (stnd.1 and stnd.5), thanks to the generous support raised by the pupils of The Blue Coat Primary School in Birmingham, UK and a grant application from The Friends of Malawi Association (FOMA) also raised through The Blue Coat School.
This was a partnership initiated through The Blue Coat School following a visit to Malawi by their senior management team in 2025 where they met the headteacher of Mlomba School, FOMA and Playdor Schools’ Director’s and Headteacher, who provided additional learning material support.
boNGO’s Happy Classroom Programme transforms bare walled overcrowded classrooms with print rich curriculum based learning materials painted on the walls.
This turns what is a dull low stimulating space into a lively engaging classroom. This leads to more engaged pupils which also facilitates peer to peer learning, more motivated teachers, less turnover, improved attendance and better learning outcomes.
The classrooms will also benefit adult members of the community members with their literacy.
Led by boNGO’s Programs Director, boNGO prepared and painted the walls and led the teacher training workshop in the use of the new learning materials.
Each Happy Classroom lasts for 8 to 10 years benefiting around 1000 children over that period.
